In the coming weeks, we will be updating our website to clarify areas of responsibility for each of these administrative offices, including providing updated organizational charts.

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are enjoying the start of your summer.

As many of you are aware, our board of trustees holds its final meeting of the academic year in June to assess the year we are closing and to establish our goals for the next academic year.

At Monday’s meeting, we reviewed the fiscal year 2016-2017 budget and projected enrollment figures. We also discussed Momentum: The Strategic Plan for Adelphi University 2016-2021. And, we reviewed organizational structure changes to align with our strategy, create clear accountability, flatten the administrative structure, and generate greater effectiveness and efficiencies in our operations.

The meeting went very well, and I am pleased to share with you leadership structure changes approved by the trustees. In the coming weeks, we will be updating our website to clarify areas of responsibility for each of these administrative offices, including providing updated organizational charts.

Thank you for a remarkably productive year. Please join me in congratulating everyone on their new roles.

All the best,

President

Office of the Provost

We are restructuring the provost’s office to be more aligned with our strategic plan and current needs.

Provost

Sam L Grogg, Ph.D., will serve as interim executive vice president and provost. As previously announced, Gayle Insler, Ph.D., is returning to the faculty after eight years of strong leadership as provost, and we will launch a national search for the provost position in early fall. Dr. Grogg will serve as interim until the position is filled and will then return as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Associate Dean Susan Briziarelli, Ph.D., will become acting dean of the College when Dr. Grogg becomes provost on July 1, 2016.

Deputy Provost

Audrey Blumberg, Ph.D., will continue to serve in this role and be responsible for accreditation, NY State Education compliance, assessment, institutional research and effectiveness, rankings and Carnegie Classification, Adelphi University International, and strategic plan implementation and metrics.

Senior Associate Provost for Undergraduate Programs and Student Success

Lester Baltimore, Ph.D., will serve in this role and focus on the quality of our undergraduate programs, advising, retention and graduation as well as support programs such as the Learning Resource Program, the Learning and Writing Center, the Office of Pre-Professional Advising and Fellowships, the Bridges Program and the Center for International Education.

Associate Provost for Faculty Advancement and Research

This is a redesigned position that will focus on all areas related to faculty support, including faculty recruitment, retention, professional development and research. This position will be posted internally first and, if there are no applicants, we will post externally.

Associate Provost for Graduate and Online Programs and Student Success

This is a redesigned position to provide the attention to graduate programs and graduate student success that was identified through the strategic planning process. This position will be posted internally first and, if there are no applicants, we will post externally.

Office of Diversity and Inclusion

Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion

Perry Greene, Ph.D., has been promoted to vice president of diversity and inclusion. He will join my Executive Leadership Team and will head a new Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Greene has served with distinction as associate provost for six years and three of those years as associate provost for faculty affairs and institutional diversity. This new position directly aligns with the recommendations of the strategic plan that will establish Adelphi as a model of diversity and inclusion.

Enrollment Management and Student Affairs

To provide greater clarity of scope and accountability in the areas of enrollment management and student affairs, I have restructured the division of enrollment management and student success and separated the two core functions of the division. To ensure these areas receive the highest attention, each of these positions will report to me directly and serve on the Executive Leadership Team.

Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management

Kristen Capezza, M.B.A. ’12, has been promoted to associate vice president of enrollment management.

Associate Vice President of Student Affairs

Esther Goodcuff ’74, M.A. ’77, will serve as the associate vice president of student affairs.

Additionally, as part of the aforementioned restructuring and with the pending retirement of Bill Proto, M.B.A. ’70, in the summer of 2016, public safety, facilities and auxiliary services now report to Tim Burton, Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration.
